May 9th, 2009

Hi everyone-

Welcome to the first report for 2009 and what a race it was! Daryl had a great season opener, earning a podium finish in the 100-lap feature.

Daryl qualified with the 5th fastest time in the 30-car field. He and the other top 10 qualifiers drew for starting spots for the 10-lap dash that would determine starting position for the feature race. Daryl drew 10th and finished 6th.

The 66 was strong, and Daryl drove around the several wrecks in the early laps of the feature, taking over the second spot at lap 38 where he remained until the checkered flag dropped. It was a fantastic race and finish!

Attached are a few pictures, including Daryl being interviewed by Global. We’re told this footage will likely air on Monday – a nice follow up to his appearance with the 66 car on Breakfast Television last Friday J.

Our next race is June 6th at Riverside International Speedway (Antigonish). We hope to see you there! At the races, be sure to pick up the 2009 program and check out the centerfold of the cut-away car, featuring the 66 car and sponsored by “The Bald Boys”, our friends at Inglis Jewellers.

The 66 team is busy preparing for the 2009 season.  The team has one car complete and the second car currently being rebuilt.  The team has spent alot of time this winter ensuring that both cars are perfectly prepared for the 2009 season.  Besure and check out the new photos in the photo gallery of the car being assembled.

August 23, 2008 – Raceway Park, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI

The team experimented successfully with a new set-up for PEI. The 66 qualified in the top 9 during time trials to earn an automatic starting spot in the night’s 100-lap feature.

Daryl started the race well, but while running side-by-side at lap 45, hit the wall on the backstretch, compromising steering control. Daryl pitted so the team could make extensive repairs. The 66 returned to the race to complete the final 20 laps, regaining 4 positions. The team finished 19th for the night, and currently sits 11th in overall points.

Join us in Shediac on Saturday, September 6th, when we’ll complete our previously rained-out event.

August 16, 2008 – Riverside Speedway, Antigonish

Daryl qualified fourth in the time trials and drew the second position in the 10-lap Dash for the Pole race. Clocking the fastest times in the field, he quickly moved into first and led most of the race. The 66 and 23 were running hard for the lead after a lap 7 restart; approaching turn 1, Daryl was hammered from behind by another competitor, spinning him into the pit wall and badly damaging the back end of the car. However, Daryl secured the 8th starting spot for the 100-lap feature race.

The team quickly made some repairs to get the car ready for the main race. Daryl’s car was not handling ideally in the early laps of the race. It was very loose, making it hard to accelerate quickly off the corners. It appears that the new tires we were using were not growing predictably with the heat from the track, changing the intended set-up on the car.  Despite this, Daryl was running solidly in the top 10, in the 6th-7th position. With about 25 laps to go, Daryl was once again hit from behind (by the same car as in the first race!) and spun into the grass. The team took the opportunity to fix the tire pressure problem and Daryl returned to the track, looking to recapture some position in the final laps of the race. At this point the weather gods conspired against us. With a drizzle beginning, the officials made one attempt at a restart, calling the race when multiple cars spun as the green flag dropped.  Daryl finished the race in 14th position.

Daryl is currently in 10th place in the overall point standings for the season.

We have 3 races left in the season. Our next race, this Saturday, August 23rd, is in Oyster   Bed Bridge, PEI. The previously rained-out Shediac race has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 6th, and the 200-lap season finale at Scotia Speedworld, Halifax, has been moved to September 13th. Hope to see you there!

July 26, 2008 – Speedway 660, Geary, NB

Daryl won the B Feature to qualify for the 100-lap main event. Having had the opportunity to make and test a series of adjustments to the car, the 66 was handling quite well by the start of the race and Daryl quickly picked up position. With 3 to go and in 8th place, the 66 was spun while passing a lapped car, sending Daryl into “the beach” in turn 3. The 66 returned to the track for the green-white-checkers finish, completing the race in 11th place.

Daryl is currently 10th in overall points for the season, and 4th in “hard-charger” points.

Join us for our next race this Sunday, August 3rd, in Shediac, NB!
