2008-05-24 Season Opener: Scotia Speedworld

The 66 car got the season off to a good start. With Daryl out of town, Russell Smith got behind the wheel to qualify 12th in a field of 34 cars. Winning his heat race, the 66 car started the 100-lap feature in the 11th spot. The team ran well, reaching the 3rd position with only 17 laps to go when the caution flag came out. Unfortunately, a tire went flat on the restart. The 66 finished the race in 11th place.

Join us for our next race at Riverside Speedway, Antigonish, this Saturday, June 7th!

July 26, 2007 – Movie News

Over the next few weeks, the 66 team will take part in the filming of a TV movie called “The Circuit”, starring Michelle Trachtenberg (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame). Scenes involving both our cars are being shot at Scotia Speedworld (Halifax) and Riverside International Speedway (Antigonish). Daryl will, of course, be driving the 66, and his dad, Don, will run the second car as the 6.

We’re getting an interesting insider’s view of movie making (long days but great catering!) in addition to help funding this race season.

The 66 will continue to compete in the Maritime Pro Stock Tour throughout filming, and our sponsor decals remain unchanged on the cars. We hope the car decal packages are not digitally altered before the movie release and that our sponsors get some TV exposure!.

Join us for our next race – this Saturday, July 28, 6PM, at NBIS, Fredericton.

Season Finale – Targa Recap and Riverside Speedway, Antigonish – September 16, 2006

Daryl had an incredible time competing with the Forbes Chev Olds team in Targa Newfoundland (September 9-16th). Targa Newfoundland is a 2200km asphalt rally, divided into 5 legs and 36 stages. Seventy-one cars participated in this year’s event. Daryl and his navigator, Troy Webb, finished the race 4th in their class and 18th overall, and earned a Targa plate for finishing all stages within the challenging Class 9 times. A significant achievement, especially for their first time competing in the event- and they brought the car home undamaged!

Daryl returned to Halifax early Saturday morning, tired, but eager to race in the Maritime Pro Stock Tour season finale at Riverside Speedway. The crew had worked hard in Daryl’s absence getting the car ready to race and had done a great job: Daryl won the 12-lap Semi, earning him a starting position in the feature race. The 66 ran well in the feature, finishing 11th in a field of 32 cars.

Daryl finished the season 14th in overall points and third in the hard charger standings. After a 2 week break, the team will be back in the garage, getting ready for 2007. The 66 car will be getting an upgrade to a 2006 body style and some work to the front end.

Thank you to our sponsors- The Split Crow Pub, Inglis Jewellers, AutoChoice Parts and Paint, DynoMight, Wayne Giles Auto Salvage, Trevor Wheatley’s Plumbing and Heating, Wayne’s Worlds Lobster & Seafood, Vance Hanes Auto Parts Ltd, Sure Courier, and FD-Fuzzy Duck Brewers Corp.- and to our fans for your support in 2006!
