A Grueling Day – But Worth It! Scotia Speedworld – September 9, 2006

The car was handling well during practice but Daryl experienced a setback during the time trials with his clutch breaking during the first lap. He completed his two laps and brought the car to the pits for lengthy repairs. The car was race ready for the 200-lap feature, with Daryl starting at the back of the pack because he had been unable to participate in the heats. The 66 steadily gained position. At lap 40, Daryl radioed that he thought he had a tire going flat and he would pit at the next caution. The yellow came out at lap 47 and the team quickly checked the car over. The tires were fine; the handling problems were caused by a slipped power steering belt. With insufficient time to fix it under the yellow, Daryl returned to the track. Despite losing his power steering, he continued to climb, breaking into the top 10 at lap 88, and in 7th place by lap 98.

A competition yellow at the halfway mark gave the team the opportunity they needed. All cars pitted at lap 100 and the teams had 12 minutes to refuel and make any adjustments. Cars back on the track under the time limit would restart in their lap 100 position while cars that took longer started at the rear of the field. Repairs were made, the 66 was refueled, and Daryl restarted the race in 6th spot.

Daryl pitted with about 50 laps to go to change the rear tires in an effort to improve grip. The car remained competitive, and the 66 finished the race in 7th place.

Daryl is in 14th place in overall points in a field of 44 cars, and he is 3rd in the “hard charger” points.

Daryl is competing in Targa Newfoundland this week, returning on Saturday morning for our last race of the season. Join us Saturday night at 6PM at Riverside Speedway, Antigonish.

Race 9: Centre For Speed, Shediac – August 26, 2006

Handling problems plagued the 66 all day. Despite this, Daryl finished his heat race in 4th position, guaranteeing the 66 a starting spot in the 100-lap feature. Daryl started the race in 17th and gained position steadily. The team suffered a setback when the 66 got collected in a wreck immediately in front of it on the track. The team quickly addressed the front-end damage and got Daryl back on the track under the caution. Daryl regained position to finish the race in 15th.

In a field of 44 cars, Daryl sits 16th in overall points with 9 of 11 races completed. Join us for our next race taking place at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday, September 9, 2006, at 6PM. This will be a 200-lap event.

Engine Problems

NBIS, Geary, NB- August 5, 2006

The 66 team was looking forward to returning to NBIS after our great run there in June. The car felt really good during the first practice session Saturday on old tires. However, during the second practice session, the engine developed a severe knock. Upon investigation it became clear that the motor issue was very serious, and we wouldn’t be able to race with it.

The Tour is off next weekend, so the team has a 2-week period to rebuild the motor and to assemble a spare motor in time for the inaugural race at the new and improved Riverside Speedway in Antigonish. Join us there for 200 laps of action on Saturday, August 19th, 6PM. The car can also be seen on display on Friday, August 18th at the Antigonish Mall from 6-9PM.

The DM Motorsports team would like to thank everyone who helped make our annual fundraising auction a success! Our thanks to the individuals and businesses that donated great items for the cause, and also to those who came out to support us on the auction day

The Pro Line 100 – New Brunswick International Speedway, Geary NB

Wreck at NBIS

The 66′s day began uneventfully. The DM Motorsports team spent the day’s practice  sessions testing car set-up modifications, as this was only their second experience  at the Geary track.

Daryl started the feature 20th and steadily gained position. After successfully driving through several caution-provoking incidents, the odds caught up with the 66. While running in 11th place, the car got hit from behind and entangled in a  caution, sustaining significant right-side damage. Unfortunately, dealing with the damage took longer than the caution period, and the 66 went down 12 laps.  Daryl returned to the track, completing the race in the 22nd position.

With 8 of 11 races complete, Daryl sits 16th in overall points out of a field of  40. The 66 is currently 13th in the heat race points and 6th in the “hard charger”  points.

Join us for our next race at the Atlantic Dodge Dealers 100, Saturday,  August 20th, 6PM at the Centre for Speed, Shediac NB!
