September 20, 2009

As the race season draws to an end, we would like to thank all of our supporters, and in particular, our sponsors. Overall, it was a good summer for the 66 team. We attended all of the big Triple Crown 250 races, numerous events throughout NS and NB, and enjoyed a second place finish.

Our last event for 2009 was the 200-lap season finale at Scotia Speedworld. We battled back for an 8th place finish after involvement in an early crash that bent up the front end of the 66 car, leaving it handling ‘like a dump truck with 4 flat tires’. The crew worked hard on the car under numerous cautions to get the car working again, and Daryl spent the second half of the race getting back up to the front for a solid finish.

The team will be spending time over the winter preparing the car for 2010.

Thanks again for your support in 2009,

Daryl and the 66 team

June 7, 2009 (Rain-delayed) – Antigonish

The bad news is that the car needs a new front clip. The good news is that Daryl wasn’t injured- the Hans head-neck restraint device paid for itself this weekend- and the team has nearly 3 weeks to make the repairs.  A photo of what’s left of the car is attached.

The car had been great in practice, turning top 5-10 times in each session. It got really loose though during time trials, so Daryl and the team used the heats and semifinal races to improve handling. Daryl won the semi and the 66 was working well by the time we got to the feature. But it was a short race for us- the 92 lost control of his car coming out of turn 4, turning down sharply into the 66 passing inside him. Daryl had braked hard as he saw the 92 get loose but couldn’t avoid the impact. It pushed the 66 airborne and both cars spun down the front stretch before crashing hard into the inside wall.

There is extensive front-end damage. Daryl is assessing the car tonight and will decide whether to repair it or to prepare the second car for the race June 27th in Fredericton. Our plan is to make that one go more like our first race at Scotia.

Thanks Again for all of your support

May 9th, 2009

Hi everyone-

Welcome to the first report for 2009 and what a race it was! Daryl had a great season opener, earning a podium finish in the 100-lap feature.

Daryl qualified with the 5th fastest time in the 30-car field. He and the other top 10 qualifiers drew for starting spots for the 10-lap dash that would determine starting position for the feature race. Daryl drew 10th and finished 6th.

The 66 was strong, and Daryl drove around the several wrecks in the early laps of the feature, taking over the second spot at lap 38 where he remained until the checkered flag dropped. It was a fantastic race and finish!

Attached are a few pictures, including Daryl being interviewed by Global. We’re told this footage will likely air on Monday – a nice follow up to his appearance with the 66 car on Breakfast Television last Friday J.

Our next race is June 6th at Riverside International Speedway (Antigonish). We hope to see you there! At the races, be sure to pick up the 2009 program and check out the centerfold of the cut-away car, featuring the 66 car and sponsored by “The Bald Boys”, our friends at Inglis Jewellers.

August 23, 2008 – Raceway Park, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI

The team experimented successfully with a new set-up for PEI. The 66 qualified in the top 9 during time trials to earn an automatic starting spot in the night’s 100-lap feature.

Daryl started the race well, but while running side-by-side at lap 45, hit the wall on the backstretch, compromising steering control. Daryl pitted so the team could make extensive repairs. The 66 returned to the race to complete the final 20 laps, regaining 4 positions. The team finished 19th for the night, and currently sits 11th in overall points.

Join us in Shediac on Saturday, September 6th, when we’ll complete our previously rained-out event.
